Back Off Bacne!

Back Acne, also known as ‘Bacne’, forms when pores or hair follicles get clogged up with bacteria or dead skin cells. Just like facial acne, back acne can come in many forms: blackheads, whiteheads or pimples.

The causes of back acne are similar to the causes of facial acne. Perspiration when combined with sebum, bacteria and dead skin can clog pores, leading to inflammation of the skin and resulting in acne. Taking a shower after perspiring lowers the possibility of back acne.

Acne Mechanica is an acne condition that is triggered by environmental conditions such as heat, pressure or friction.  It can also occur on the back when tight clothing is worn in warm and humid weather.

Here are a few tips to fight off Bacne!

1.

Body scrubs are great for preventing back acne from forming as it exfoliates the skin and unclog pores. White and brown sugar act as a natural gentle exfoliator that gets rid of the dead skin cells that clog up pores. Not only does sugar not clog pores, it even moisturises the skin!

Steps:
  1. Mix up 1 part of Jojoba or Coconut Oil and 2 parts of sugar
  2. Apply it whilst rubbing gently in a circular motion
  3. Leave the mixture on for 10-15 minutes
  4. Proceed to rinse off with lukewarm water

2.

Tea Tree Oil is one of the highly recommended home remedies for back acne as it contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Tea tree oil also gets rid of the bacteria that cause acne.

Steps:
  1. Mix 2-3 drops of tea tree oil with a cup of water
  2. Apply it onto back with a cotton swab
  3. Allow it to dry. Do this thrice a day
  4. Store the mixture in a bottle for future use

3.

Change your bed sheets at least once a week! Bed sheets come into contact with our bodies for around 6-8 hours daily, so when bed sheets are dirty, it increases the chances getting of back acne. This is due to the accumulation of dirt and bacteria that touch your skin!

4.

Give chemical peel a try! Chemical peels are an alternative solution to back acne whereby a chemical solution is applied onto the skin, causing the skin to blister and peel. Over the course of a few days, a new layer of skin will replace the old skin, reducing the appearance of acne, acne scars, pigmentations and skin texture.

Apart from the few mentioned above, there are several other ways you can prevent back acne but it is vital to keep your skin clean and free from perspiration or dirt.
