What is a Thread Facelift?
A thread facelift is a less invasive alternative to the traditional surgical facelift procedures. The procedure can be completed within one to two hours and normally does not even require anaesthesia. It does not require any deep incisions nor is there a long recovery time. The purpose of this treatment is to smooth out certain facial features such as your nose, cheeks, and jowls. It can also be applied to your neck. Instead of requiring full-on surgery, all the physician requires are dissolvable Polydioxanone threads. Read on to learn more about this procedure and its benefits.
How it Works
The cosmetic surgeon will insert thin, barbed threads into your face and neck, depending on where you require treatment. Once inserted, the threads will meld with the skin cells. The surgeon will then pull the threads back to stretch and lift the sagging skin. Once complete, the surgeon will tie the threads making them unnoticeable. After the treatment is complete, you should notice that your skin is tight and no longer sagging. Most patients are fully conscious for this procedure and can approve the surgeon’s progress as they lift the threads. The final results look natural and produce minimal downtime and scarring.
Who is a Candidate for this Procedure?
The best candidates are those between the ages of 30 and 70. As this procedure does not necessarily improve skin tone, it is preferable that the patient have relatively good skin tone from the get-go. It is also best if your skin has minimal or moderate sagging at most. The threads can only stretch the skin so far, so we recommend a different procedure if your skin is heavily sagging.
Benefits and Results
Thread Facelift procedures do not risk heavy scarring as do surgical facelift procedures. The Thread Facelift procedure is non-invasive. Even though you need to place the thread under several layers of skin, there is minimal pain. You will likely feel a slight prick and then a tingling feeling as the thread is inserted. The procedure is much faster than a surgical procedure and requires minimal recovery time, if any. Once complete, you can usually go about your day as usual as the thread will be fully invisible upon completion. Some patients experience minor itchiness if they have particularly sensitive skin, however, most have no side effects at all. Thread Facelifts are also much more cost efficient compared with surgical facelifts. Finally, the results of the procedure are immediate, allowing you to walk out with a vibrant, younger appearance as soon as the session is completed.
How Long Does it Last?
Provided you take good care of your skin, the threads can survive for quite a long time. Most commonly, the lifting effect will remain for between 12 and 18 months of time. If you notice your skin beginning to sag again within that time, book an appointment and console with your doctor as to whether you should retake the procedure again.
