It is said that first impression counts and that facial harmony is an important factor in creating a good first impression. ‘HIKO’ is a combination of two words- ‘Hi’ meaning High and ‘Ko’ meaning Nose in the Korean language. Therefore, HIKO refers to ‘High Nose’ and the procedure aims to improve the contour of the nose.
HIKO Thread Nose Lift:
Some individuals might not be satisfied with their nose shape and undergoing invasive procedures such as rhinoplasty surgery is not uncommon these days. However, individuals are turning to HIKO thread nose lift as it is minimally invasive and has significantly lesser downtime as compared to surgery.
HIKO thread nose lifts are recognized as a safe and reliable method to improve the shape of the nose. In recent years, the HIKO thread method is replacing the conventional method of surgery which would require a long recovery time.
The Procedure of HIKO Thread Nose Lift:
HIKO nose lift involves the use of advanced PDO (polydioxanone) 3-dimensionally barbed threads. It is then placed under the skin to improve the contour of the nose, elevate the nose bridge and/or tip. It also stimulates collagen formation to lift and support the desired contour.
HIKO nose thread lift is done under local anesthesia and the procedures takes about 20-30 minutes. The number of threads required will be determined by the attending doctor based on the existing shape of the nose.
The PDO threads enter from the tip of the nose, lifting the underlying skin to give it a revised shape. The embedded threads dissolve naturally after 2-3 months, leaving behind collagen that formed in the meantime to support the new shape. Therefore, its effects can last for 1-1.5 years. The HIKO nose lift is a popular procedure in South Korea and is relatively affordable as compared to other methods.
Other nose contouring methods:
Apart from HIKO thread nose lifts, there are other nose contouring treatments such as nose fillers and rhinoplasty.
Treatment Time: Treatment time of HIKO nose lift and nose fillers is approximately half an hour. Rhinoplasty on the other hand, takes 1 to 4 hours. The duration time in the case of rhinoplasty may vary depending on the individual’s requirement.
Downtime: For HIKO thread nose and nose fillers, there may be some swelling that lasts for 1-3 days. As for rhinoplasty, there is a downtime of at least 1-2 weeks.
Comfort level: Another important factor when deciding which treatment to undergo is the comfort level. HIKO nose thread method requires local anesthesia and patients may feel some levels of discomfort. Nose filler is a generally comfortable procedure, an application of anesthetic cream can be applied if requested. As for Rhinoplasty patients, there is an option of either local or general anesthesia.
Cost: As compared to nose fillers and HIKO nose thread, Rhinoplasty is the least affordable as it involves surgery and the procedure tends to be complex. The price range for nose fillers and HIKO nose thread are comparably and may range from $600-$1000.
